The Earth, too, has been breathing for hundreds of millions of years. We can find many different breaths in this world: the breath of animals, the breath of stones, the breath of light... The movement that arises from breath is not shaped by external forces but naturally emerges from within all living beings. In this workshop, we will explore breath as a fundamental element of every form of life and the source of movement. The masterclass does not require any prior experience with Butoh dance and is conceived as an introduction to the principles of Jinen, the ancient Shinto word that denotes the "Spirit of Nature." It is open to dancers, actors, therapists, practitioners of all movement disciplines, and anyone who wishes to expand their vital breath through their body. Light and darkness, shape and energy, Apollo and Dionysos. Two principles which conflict and complement each other. During the workshop we wil explore our body as breath, movement and voice, related to Apollo and Dionysos primordial energies. Power of light, symmetry, harmony and trancendence of the Apollinian presence and power of earth, fire, ecstasy of the dionysian action shall be expressed through the body with movement and sound. At the same time we will work on some elements of japanese mythology : -Amaterasu, female deity, close to Apollo's sun energy -Susano, male deity and Amanozume, female deity, both related to dionysian energy. Thanks to those elements we will explore Apollo and Dionysos's male and female energies, as two sides of a same face. Through Greek and Japanese's mythologies, beyond Europ and Asia, we will try to reach some archetypes of the humanity. Naar het duister dat in elk van ons huist. Het duister dat uiteindelijk niet bestaan kan zonder licht. Ontdek hoe die twee aan elkaar gewaagd zijn, nu het duister steeds vroeger in de avond de stad in slaap sust. Laat je overvallen door deze droom. Of is het zinsbegoocheling...? En zie wat er ontkiemd en opbloeit vanuit het haast onontkoombare niets. Unieke kans Voor deze voorstelling verwelkomen wij de Japanse Butoh-danser Atsushi Takenouchi en muzikante Hiroko Komiya. Butoh-dansvoorstellingen zijn nauwelijks te zien in Nederland, dus dit is een unieke kans om het een keer te ervaren! Butoh dans De bewegingsvorm van waaruit Geert van der Velden werkt heeft zijn wortels in Japanse Butoh, een dansvorm die verwant is aan wat in Europa ‘Ausdruckstanz’ wordt genoemd. Butoh komt voort uit de diepste universele gevoelens van de mens en haar relatie met de (natuurlijke) locatie waar de performance plaatsvindt. Daarmee overschrijd Butoh de grenzen waar het herkenning en inleving betreft. Het aardse van deze ‘oerdans’ leidt ons terug naar onze innerlijke natuur, naar emoties als verdriet, liefde en trouw en het legt verbindingen tussen geboorte en dood. Daarmee biedt deze kunstvorm de mogelijkheid om te herkennen wat we niet eerder kenden, om ons in te leven in wat onbekend was. De performance en installatie doorbreekt de vaste patronen door onverwachte ontmoetingen mogelijk te maken tussen publiek, performers en de natuurlijke en monumentale omgeving. Then in the nature, we do butoh training and dance with each nature element,searching the relation between body and surroundings.We will dance with the trees, flowers,wind, rocks, the red earth, ancient olive forest,sunset on the hill, dancing with stars with voice. And also dance with mother sea and sands on the beach and in the water, transforming into the sea life. Atsushi will guide our work so that every participant will create own short solo. On the last day there will be each solo Butoh improvisation in nature. The classes are accompanied by live music of Hiroko Komiya (object sounds, voice and percussion).
